Communities in Bloom 2016

Butchart Gardens Involvement in Communities in Bloom

The Butchart Gardens is a proud supporter of Canada’s Communities in Bloom program and for the past 8 years have sponsored the ‘Best Land reclamation Award’.

This award is really a tribute to a community that has had the vision and spirit to reclaim and beautify a neglected and unattractive site. We sponsor this award because the Sunken Garden was one of the most recognized reclamation projects of its time.

The Sunken Garden Reclamation

Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement and the challenge of a national program, with focus on enhancing green spaces in communities.

Every year many communities participate and provide detailed submissions of the various projects that they have undertaken. We look for criteria such as the overall benefit to the community, volunteer participation and of course the horticultural component, which from the perspective of beautification, is very important to us.

Each year we come across one submission that stands out from the rest - one community that exceeds the criteria that we are looking for and exemplifies the community spirit and participation that is so important to the Communities in Bloom program.

This year the award went to the town of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan.
