Flower and Garden Report for April 28, 2016

Top Walk tulips at The Butchart Gardens in late April 2016

The amazing beauty of spring continues and as an added bonus (due to the warm weather) we have witnessed the extremely early arrival of our first Blue Poppies!

I’m not sure if I have ever witnessed such an overlap of spring blossoms as we have everything from Azaleas and Wisteria, Deutzia and Doronicum, Aronia and Trillium and everything in between, blooming at the same time.

The Japanese garden typically carries us through the month of May with its spectacular collection of Azaleas and intense plantings of Blue Poppies. With such an early start this year, we’re hoping that the colourful display will still carry us through as the weather has cooled to more seasonable levels.

Planning for next year’s spring bulb display is complete and we are already excitedly anticipating the many changes that we hope will delight our many visitors.

And finally, if you love Tulips, now is the time to come and visit and this incredible display will soon come to an end. However, if you miss the tulips, the emergence of the early blooms of summer should more than satisfy your appetite for incredible garden beauty.
