John Gogo and The Blue Sky Miners, Monday, August 17 2015

John Gogo
John Gogo

Western Canadian singer/songwriter John Gogo is from a large musical family in Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island. After a two year stint as a Chokerman in a logging camp, he began his professional musical career with two of his brothers in a 'progressive rock' band, touring around BC and Alberta.  He released his first album 'Coal & Wood' in 1990, with original songs steeped in history and island culture about his family history in mining and logging.

The Victoria Times Colonist called John "one of the most talented singer/songwriters this area has ever produced," and we agree! Before you come to see him perform August 17th, read John Gogo tells Island stories in song. His brand new 2015 release 'Coal & Wood (Revisited)' is a return to his early 'folk singer' days, featuring 2 songs from the original album plus a handful of new originals about people, places and historical events of Canada's western islands. We can't wait.

The Blue Sky Miners

The Blue Sky Miners

One of the rules of The Blue Sky Miners' Western Canada Tour 2015 is that everyone has to get wet - every day. From their Instagram photo above, it seems that they're trying to keep their promise. While we hope they don't jump into the Sunken Garden Lake (no swimming allowed!), we do hope that you will love the unique blend of folk-rock that Jena Gogo, Jay Mitchell, Eric Duquette, Mark Lavoie, and Stefan Hegerat bring to The Gardens. Before you see them Monday, check out this live acoustic video from The Blue Sky Miners' Cold Water. We wonder how cold the water was in Sproat Lake above? Enjoy!
