The Butchart Chronicles : August 2, 2014

Two amazing performances not to be missed!

James Keelaghan

He has been called one of Canada's best singer/songwriters - and he will play at The Gardens on Thursday August 7, 2014. James Keelaghan crafts words into stories into songs like no other and he has been doing it for the last 25 years, with increasing success - a result of singlemindedness in pursing the next unique story and the next after that. He is fueled with passion, spirited intensity and insatiable curiosity which springs forth from his songs like a refreshing fountain of water in a desert oasis.

Watch him play the guitar as he sings Cold Missouri Waters. The show starts at 7:30 pm and is included with admission to The Gardens. Arrive early! Experience a great story teller in song.

Quartette

Since their debut in 1993, the four members of Quartette have been both publicly and critically acclaimed for their lush harmonies and delightfully diverse repertoire. Cindy Church, Caitlin Hanford, Gwen Swick, and Sylvia Tyson are seasoned singer/songwriters whose influences range from blues and gospel, to country and folk, to jazz and pop. The most recent of their six recordings is “Down At The Fair” with legendary musician/producer Colin Linden. An evening with Quartette is always a magical musical journey.

We are not the only ones that agree Quartette is musical royalty:

"Free of glitzy ornamentation, Tyson and crew float through their own finely crafted folk, country, gospel, cajun, bluegrass compositions with a simple grace rarely found in contemporary music." - Now Magazine

"I've been the host of Morningside for almost twelve years, and there have been few musical moments more exciting than the appearance and performance of the four women who make up Quartette." - Peter Gzowski Morningside, CBC Radio

"Quartette vocalizes like they've grown up on the same street...in the same family. The counterpoint intermingling of human voices can sound positively celestial. This was the case with Quartette." - Victoria Times Colonist

Come out and listen for yourself.  Show starts at 7:30 pm on Thursday August 14, 2014 and is included with admission to The Gardens.  Click here for more information on our Summer Entertainment.
