Afternoon Tea at The Butchart Gardens

Your visit to Victoria, BC would not be complete without Afternoon Tea...

The terms Afternoon Tea and High Tea are sometimes interchanged, however in England where the terms were developed, the historic distinction is clear. Afternoon Tea was a light meal served in the afternoon and High Tea was an early evening meal typically eaten between 5 and 6 o'clock in the evening. It would be eaten as a substitute for both Afternoon Tea and the evening meal. Afternoon Tea would consist of a variety of sandwiches and little cakes, while High Tea also included a variety of hot foods, hence its other name of Meat Tea. Afternoon Tea was normally eaten at smaller tables away from the dining room, while High Tea was served at the main (or high) dining table.

Our Afternoon Tea combines a little of the High Tea tradition with our warm sausage roll, and roasted vegetable and cheese quiche. Best of all is our commitment to quality, meaning that whenever possible, products are made on site by our team of professionals. Some examples include the chocolate Grand Marnier truffles and the Lemon Poppy Seed loaf on our Afternoon Tea. Our sausage rolls are made from Vancouver Island pork without binders or preservatives.

A large pot of tea with your choice of loose tea leaf blends complements your meal. Amongst the varieties offered you'll find Gardens Blend (light black tea blend of Darjeeling, Black Hunan and Gunpowder), Bachelor Button (Chinese Black and Sencha tea flavored with bergamot, rhubarb and blue cornflowers), Teaberry Blend (Black Ceylon tea flavored with strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and currants) and Rose Congou (Chinese lack tea scented with rose petals). These blends are also available in the Gift Shop to allow you to take memories home.
