Discovery Walk
Welcome to the Discovery Walk at The Butchart Gardens. The Discovery Walk program supports the BC Ministry of Education Science Curriculum: Life Science, Physical Science and Earth & Space Science.

Self conducted tour worksheets are provided for school groups wishing to discover our various gardens. The Butchart Gardens is a wonderful local resource location for environmental, science and history studies.
The Discovery Walk program is designed for Grade 3 - 7 and as a learning tool for ESL students. Discovery Walk worksheets (Grades 3 - 5 ; Grades 6 to 7 ) guide your students through four key areas: the Sunken Garden, the Totems, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. Worksheets can be downloaded in French or English for printing prior to arrival; please be sure each student brings their own pencil. Participants will receive a colorful Discovery Walk bookmark. You should allow approximately 1.5 hours to complete the program.

Discovery Walk is offered at no additional charge, however admission to The Gardens is required. A 1:10 ratio of adults to students is recommended. We offer one adult complimentary admission for each group of 10 students; any additional adults pay the group rate.

We offer secure storage for backpacks and would also be happy to suggest some outdoor spaces for classes to enjoy their lunches.
For students wishing to purchase items at our Coffee Shop, it serves freshly made sandwiches, drinks and snacks, or please see the "To Go" menu for groups.
