Visitor Services
The Visitor Information Centre is located in Waterwheel Square
The staff will be pleased to assist you with information on The Gardens, Victoria and Vancouver Island. Twelve month passes are sold here as well as film, disposable cameras, postage stamps, telephone calling cards and comfort (non-prescription) medications.
Accessibility
All public areas of The Gardens are accessible by wheelchair, except for a viewpoint area within the Sunken Garden known as "The Mound." Only motorized or standard wheelchairs are permitted. Due to the design and layout of the gardens, we are unable to accommodate Segways. Attendant-assist washrooms are available. (Also see Wheelchairs section on this page.)
Baby changing areas
All washrooms have baby changing areas.
Baby Strollers
Strollers are available, free of charge, on a first-come, first-served basis at the Visitor Information Centre.
First Aid
Should you have any first aid concerns please go to the Visitor Information Centre or, in an emergency, contact any staff member.
Lost & Found
To report a lost item, or to turn in a found item please visit the Visitor Information Centre.
Luggage/small items storage
The Visitor Information Centre is able to hold luggage and small items for you while you tour the gardens.
Maps
Visitor maps, in 21 languages, showing the various gardens and paths are available at the Visitor Information Centre.
Parking
- Bicycles - You may lock your bicycles in the main storage area within the main parking lot, or use one of the few racks in the bus parking area.
- Cars - There is no charge for parking. We have a number of parking spaces available for those displaying disabled parking permits and requiring the spaces.
- RVs - There is no charge for parking. No overnight parking is possible. RVs are parked in the bus lot.
Pay Phones
There are pay phones available in a number of locations, including the Visitor Information Centre.
Pets
Pets are allowed, but must be on short leashes and kept under control. If you forget your leash, please stop by the Visitor Information Centre where you may borrow one. Refuse bags are available and we have 5 convenient pet water fountains. (for locations, look for the drinking fountains on The Butchart Gardens map)
Please take note, the Fireworks displays on Saturday evenings through the summer are very loud, and distressing to most animals. We ask pet owners NOT to bring their pets to the Fireworks shows.
Picnicking
Picnic tables are conveniently located adjacent to the main car parking area. For other areas, check with staff in our Visitor Services centre.
Postal Services
The Visitor Information Centre has a mail drop box and there is a small supply of postage stamps is available for purchase.
Umbrellas
Clear plastic umbellas are widely available for your onsite use and are located in the parking areas and throughout The Gardens.
Wheelchairs
There is a limited number of wheelchairs available, free of charge (but requiring a $10 refundable deposit), on a first-come, first-served basis. The refundable deposit may be paid with cash, debit or credit card. We do not take reservations at any time of the year, nor can we provide an escort/assistant to help push the chair. Only motorized or standard wheelchairs are permitted. Only the area that rises in the middle of the Sunken Garden, the wharf area and our boat tours are not accessible to those in wheelchairs. And yes, our Rose Carousel is accessible.

Wharf
Should you choose to arrive by boat, we have a map image detailing wharf and cove conditions you're likely to find at The Butchart Gardens.
