Distance: 21km/14mi north of the city.
Travel time: Allow about 30 minutes.
From downtown Victoria, take Blanshard Street out of town (North).
Blanshard Street becomes Hwy 17, which leads to the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal.
You will pass Elk Lake, visible on your left. After passing the lake, you will go straight through a set of traffic lights.
After these traffic lights, move into the left, inside lane.
18 km/ 11 mi from Victoria, turn left off Hwy 17 (Exit 18) onto Keating X Road.
Continue straight along Keating X Road. You will pass through 4 sets of traffic lights.
Keating X Road becomes Benvenuto Avenue, which leads directly into The Gardens.

From Northern Points on Vancouver Island
At Mill Bay you have a choice of taking the very scenic Mill Bay to Brentwood Bay ferry, or driving over the Malahat Highway. The ferry takes 25 minutes to cross the 3 nautical miles and is a relaxing way to travel. If your timing is good it is also faster than driving south around Finlayson Arm, then back north.
Should you choose the Malahat Highway simply look for the large sign for The Butchart Gardens and turn off onto Mackenzie Avenue. You will pass under Hwy 17 and take the right hand lane up onto the highway.
