What To See

Throughout the seasons there is always something of interest in the various gardens: from the fragrant, winter blooming shrubs, to the fresh delights of spring, to the abundance of summer colour, to the grand finale of autumn.

We have broken out what you might expect to see each month in the page links below.

Our heated show greenhouse, next to the Blue Poppy restaurant, changes seasonally. No matter the season, you'll find it filled with exciting colours and the sliding photo window allows you to take great, glare free images.

But it is not just what's in the various flower beds creating the interest. All through the year our 50 gardeners are hard at work, whether they are planting, digging, or pruning. As well, the Arts & Entertainment crew tend to numerous displays and maintenance issues. We've included a little of their work plans in each month's listing too.

Learn what's flowering, or of special interest, by following the links. Naturally, weather conditions may alter the blooming time by as much as several weeks.

Spring

As the weather warms trees burst into flower. The perfumes of spring and vibrant colours of daffodils, tulips, hyacinths and others tantalize the senses.

Summer

Perennials and annuals reach for the sun. Mid-summer Night Illuminations, Saturday night fireworks and nightly entertainment add extra excitement.

Autumn

Glory in the crowning beauty of Autumn when the Japanese Garden comes to center stage. A stunning parade of red, russet and golden maples is joined by dozens of varieties of chrysanthemums.

Christmas

Through early January enjoy a phenomenal display of coloured lights and decorations. The ever-popular Twelve Days of Christmas displays are tucked away about The Gardens. There's even an outdoor ice skating rink.

Prelude to Spring

Enjoy a large indoor garden filled with spring plants and visit the historical display in the former residence of the Butchart family. This is the time to view the basic structure of the gardens and to watch the beginnings of spring.
