How we are protecting our Visitors:

  • Please do not visit if feeling ill.
  • Controlled entry at all entrances allows staff to monitor attendance level.
  • Masks or face coverings are mandatory when visiting The Butchart Gardens, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Hand sanitizer is available at several locations.
  • Building ventilation systems are regularly serviced, maintained and optimized to introduce as much fresh air as practicable.
  • Some plexiglass remains in place to provide a safety barrier, where practicable.
  • Some benches, tables and chairs have been removed to reduce gathering and the chances of hard surface exposure.
  • To facilitate physical distancing on pathways, the use of camera tripods is currently not permitted.
  • Some restrooms are closed, enabling more frequent cleaning of those remaining open.
  • High touch surfaces are sanitized more frequently using an appropriate virucide.
  • Wheelchairs & Strollers are loaned without a deposit transaction and are disinfected between use.
  • The Dining Room Restaurant: Following all guidelines from the PHO and WorkSafe BC. All visitors 12 years and older will be required to show proof of vaccination and those 18 years and older must also show a piece of valid government photo ID. A maximum of six guests may be seated at a table with physical distancing between tables. Masks or face coverings are mandatory indoor public spaces.
  • The Blue Poppy Restaurant: Closed for the season.
  • Coffee Shop: following all guidelines for physical distancing. Limited seating, with take-away service available. Masks or face coverings are required inside. A maximum of six guests may be seated at a table.
  • Seed & Gift Store: Following protocols to allow for physical distancing, capacity monitoring and sanitary precautions. No food permitted inside. Masks or face coverings are mandatory indoor public spaces.
  • Spring Prelude: Capacity monitored, one way routing.

How we are protecting our Staff:

  • No visitors, staff or contractors experiencing signs or symptoms of COVID-19 are allowed on property.
  • Staff experiencing signs or symptoms of COVID-19 are directed to use the BC Self-Assessment Tool and follow its instructions.
  • Company sick policy has been reinforced with staff, with the understanding that they are to stay home if sick; if they become ill at work they are sent home immediately.
  • Human Resources is closely monitoring and tracking staff illness.
  • Following all existing and new guidance provided by WorkSafe BC.
  • Building ventilation systems are regularly serviced, maintained and optimized to introduce as much fresh air as practicable.
  • Masks or face coverings are mandatory both indoors and outdoors.
  • Mandatory COVID-19-specific training for all staff.
  • All non-essential work travel postponed.
  • Work spaces have been modified where possible to enable staff to maintain distance of 2m/6 ft.
  • Some smaller company communal break areas have been closed to reduce gathering, main break areas are open with staff staggering break times to allow for adequate physical distancing.
  • If more than one person in a company vehicle, occupants must be spaced apart. If physical distancing is not possible a mask or face covering must be worn.
  • High touch surface areas are regularly wiped down with a recommended virucide.
  • Easy-access to hand washing and hand sanitizers.
  • Relevant signage and resources are posted throughout staff areas.
  • Task-specific PPE is available, including gloves, masks, respirators and face shields in appropriate locations.

How our operations have adjusted:

  • Staff are monitoring for proof of vaccination and face coverings.
  • Doors remain open where possible.
  • Credit and debit accepted; cash is not accepted.
